Heavy timber design and engineering
We provide heavy timber design and engineering services for architects and general contractors. Early involvement in the design process allows us to fully bring our experience and knowledge of building with heavy timber to bear on a project. Pre-construction services we offer include feasibility studies, conceptual timber frame design, production of engineered shop drawings, value engineering, and budgetary cost estimating.
While we do not provide architectural design services, we are glad to work with any architect. If you do not yet have an architect, we will be glad to discuss your project with you and recommend one.
Timber frame fabrication and erection
We build all types of heavy timber projects, from accurate historic reproductions to large span contemporary roof systems. Our highly skilled carpenters build the timber frame in our shop, cutting the joinery by hand. Once the frame arrives on site, we assemble and raise it.
We work as a specialty subcontractor to the general contractor. This arrangement allows us to focus on what we do best-building and raising first-class timber frames.
Specialty timber products
We provide a variety of hard-to-find timber products, including:
- Reclaimed heart pine timbers, flooring, lumber, and millwork
- Hand converted building products -- hand hewn timbers, pit sawn lumber, riven pegs, shingles and clapboards
- Naturally curved timbers, very large timbers, and timbers from hard-to-find species
Historic reproduction and restoration
We provide repair, reproduction, and restoration services for historic timber frames throughout the Southeast. Our knowledge of traditional American and European carpentry systems enables us to build authentic historic reproductions and to properly repair and restore existing historic structures using traditional materials and methods. Services we offer include:
- Historic frame survey and documentation
- Damage assessment and design/engineering of repairs
- Timber frame dismantling and relocation
- Research, design, and construction of historic reproductions
