Whit and Gabel Holder demonstrated traditional timber framing and hewing at the Masters of Building Arts Festival at historic Marion Square in Charleston, South Carolina March 16-18, 2007.

Whit and Gabel were among a small group of traditional craftsmen and women from around the nation invited to participate in the festival. The festival exposes residents and visitors to many of the trades that were used to create local historic buildings and that are still used today to create new structures.

In addition to traditional framing tools and techniques, Whit and Gabel demonstrated hewing—converting logs into timbers with axes. For photos of the festival, visit http://tfguild.org/news/bldgarts07.html
